Notes |
- Died of injuries received. Press report as follows: ( but no reference to source of publication)
"A sensational stabbing took place on the Robinson Mine property on Sunday. While the family of Mr Webb, late compound manager of the Robinson Mine, was seated at dinner, the hue and cry of a crowd of people chasing a kaffir past their house made the Webb family rush to the door, and as people were shouting that the pursued kaffir had stabbed a woman, Ronald Webb, a young man, 21 years of age, rushed after the native and made to catch him, when the native turned and slashed him in the chest with a huge knife…"
"…Ronald Webb was shortly afterwards taken to the General Hospital where he was found to be in a dying condition…"
" The alleged culprit was ultimately found by the police in a native girl's room in 9th Avenue, Mayfair, where it is said that he had threatened to stab the girl who was an acquaintance of his…"
"…The affair which resulted in Webb receiving his injuries originated in a yard at 9, Marshall Street, Ferreirastown, during the lunch hour on Sunday.
"A native ran amok, and created a disturbance among the natives who tenanted rooms in the yard. It is stated that this ended in the stabbing of a native woman, whose friends sent word to Marshall Square, which was close by.
"A European policeman was dispatched at once, but the native managed to evade him, and dashed out of the yard."
