My Lord,

Being desirous of settling as agriculturalists at the proposed new settlement at the Cape of Good Hope I take the liberty of requesting the favour of an intimation from your Lordship if a grant of land & under what conditions will be given to such persons as may be desirous of proceeding to that settlement, the party paying their own expence of conveyance £10 to be considered in no way chargeable to Government; I take the liberty of suggesting the party propose taking a capital (in their opinion) fully sufficient for bringing into cultivation a quantity of land equal to that mentioned in your Lordship’s circular.

I have the honour to be

Your Lordship’s obedient humble servant

John CLEAVER
