My Lord,

Having been much accustomed to agriculture in this country and being desirous in conjunction with a friend (also an agriculturalist) to embark a small capital in an emigration to the Cape of Good Hope, all the expences of which we propose to pay, I should be glad to know whether under such circumstances we may expect from His Majesty’s Government a grant of land to enable us to carry our purpose into effect.

I am my Lord

Your Lordship’s most obedient servant

Richard MAY
