Sir,

I took the liberty of calling at your office this morning for the purpose of asking a question respecting the proposed emigration to the Cape of Good Hope, but being informed that it was quite impossible I could have the honour of an interview. I trust Sir this will plead my apology for the present intrusion.

Pray Sir will there be any encouragement given to a medical man (by the British Government) purposing to accompany the emigrants? And is so, of what kind. May I hope Sir that you will be so very kind as to oblige me with an answer to these enquiries as I feel particularly desirous of going to Africa if it presents any reasonable prospect of success. I have the honour to be Sir,

Most respectfully,

Robert SUTHERLAND

Surgeon
