Sampson was living with daughter, Eleanor, and son in law, Thomas Webster. At the time of his death he had long since ceased to work as he was well into his eighty's. His wife, Amelia Marguerite, had died 4 years earlier. He was likely in poor health mentally and physically. Thomas reported his death and completed a death notice the day after he died. In the rush to get the death notice filed, probably in order to settle the estate as soon as possible (Thomas was sole executor of the estate), it seems that Thomas forgot some of the children of the deceased. Eleven days later he tried to correct this by handwriting another death notice as an addendum to the original. It is unclear why he misspelt names that he had spelled correctly the first time around.
