7 Dec 1826 : Martha, daughter of James Wheeler was married at Grahamstown by the Rev. Thomas Ireland to David Rudd. James Wheeler was witness.

"I have him born 2 Nov 1794 in the Parish of Yarley, Suffolk. I take it that he married a Martha Wheeler?
If so do you have a marriage date? They had 9 children. Their daughter Frances Harriet Rudd married Charles Estment. They are my great grand parents. The source of my info is taken from a family bible started by Frances Harriet at the time of her marriage. My mother in the 1960,s was able to copy the info from the bible which was the property of her eldest brother."

In 'British Army Pensioners Abroad 1772-1899' by Norman K. Crowder, I found a reference to David Rudd. He is listed under "Cape Cavalry" and the entry reads as follows:
David RUDD; pension awarded 21 May 1820; residence – Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Source: WO120 Volume 69 page 64.
It is said to be "intended to serve as an index to the Chelsea regimental pension registers of British veterans who settled abroad with an army pension. They are known as Chelsea pensioners because the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, decided on the entitlement and amount of pension to be paid to discharge veterans with disabilities or long service."
Unfortunately, the registers themselves are in the custody of the PRO in Kew, England, and you would ideally need someone to have a look at the volume to see whether it contains any additional information. Because of the current rate of exchange, this may not be practical, but the good news is that the registers have been filmed by the Mormons and so you should be able to order the microfilm from a Mormon library. According to the book, the microfilm reference for volume 69 is 852,021 , however, you would need to check this with the library.
