    Notes:

    Mary on Tombstone 1788 - 1863
per Greg Lewin "I suggest changing this lady's name to Ann Brookes. This is the name and spelling used at her baptism, her marriage and in the death notice her family placed in GJ. The name Mary and spelling on the memorial stone at Manley Flats Methodist Church are almost certainly an error. Probably confusing her with her daughter (who was baptised Mary Brooks [sic] Mountfort).
Ann Brookes was baptised at St Mary's, Stafford, England on 12 Jan 1789. The register records that she was born on the same day. Her father, Thomas Brookes, was a baker in Stafford. Shortly after Mary's birth the family moved to St Thomas's, just outside Stafford, where they rented a flour mill.
Ann married William Mountfort at Tixall, Stafford, on 30th November 1809. The newly weds appear to have lived in Hanley and then Burslem (both in North Staffordshire) before emigrating to South Africa.
Ann died at Manley's Flat on 5th June 1863."
