Mr Cannell was one of the early pioneers of the Rand, where he joined the Johannesburg firm of BM Woolan & Co. Coming to England, Mr Cannell took up the London Agency of several companies controlled by the Woollan group, and very soon entered a larger sphere of usefulness, greatly extending his interests in the Transvaal and Rhodesia. He is a Director of the Consolidated Rand-Rhodesia Trust, the Bulawayo Estate and Trust, the Elandsfontein Deep, Monastery Diamond Mines, the Euro-African Corporation. Belfast GM Co, the Rand Investment Corporation and the "African Review". In the early days of the late SA War, he acted as Hon. Capt on the HQ Staff of the Army Remount Dept. (1899). He is keen on shooting, hunting and motoring, and married, in 1891, Miss Eva Bright. Cameron married Eva Marion Henrietta Money-Bright in 1891. Eva was born in 1865 in Southsea, Hampshire, England. 10. | Robert David Featherstone was born on 27 Jun 1790 in South Molton, Devonshire, England; was christened on 11 Jul 1790 in Chittlehampton, Devonshire, England (son of John Featherstone and Rosetta Gibbons); died on 5 Sep 1842 in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Notes: He was a Sergeant in the 38th Regiment of Foot (the South Staffordshires). He served in Wellington's campaign in the Spanish Peninsula and was present at the battles of Vittoria and San Sebastian in 1813 and at Nives in 1814. He arrived in South Africa with his regiment on 2 November 1818 and was a member of the Grahamstown garrison, being discharged from the army in 1830. Robert was born on the 27th June 1790 at Molton, Deven and baptised in Chittlehampton in the same year. He was one of ten children. Legend has it that Robert, in consequence of a qualrrel with his father, ran away from home, and, on the 14th March 1808, giving his age as eighteen years, enlisted in the district of Birmingham as a private in the second Battalion of the 38th Regiment of Foot (afterwards known as the South Staffordshire). His military record states as follows: Transferred 1st Battalion on the 25th November 1814; promoted Corporal 17th March 1818; embarked for Cape of Good Hope 12th June 1918; disembarked at Cape Town 2nd November 1818; transferred (by order of Lord Charles Somerset) to Cape Infantry 25th October 1819; transferrred to Cape Cavalry 25th March 1827; Acting Garrison Sergeant, Grahamstown from January 1830; discharget to Out Pension 25th September 1830 per War Office Authority dated 23rd June 1830. Robert married Lucy Moles Finaughty, 1820 Settler on 6 Apr 1822 in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Lucy (daughter of William Finaughty and Lucy Moles, 1820 Settler) was born on 11 Jul 1804 in London, England; was christened on 20 Oct 1805 in St Mary, Islington, London, England; died on 7 Mar 1874 in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
