    Notes:

Henry supposedly married Hannah Passer/Passen in 1804 when he would have been 18 years old. The only recorded children were born in 1816 and 1819 when his wife then died, presumably in child birth or shortly thereafter.

Extracted from "The Settlers Handbook: by M D Nash:
"Henry was 32 years old when he and his wife Sarah aged 26, with their children, Samuel (5), Hannah (3) and George (1) plus Rhoda* came to South Africa as part of the Bradshaw Party of 1820 Settlers. Most of the party came from Cam, near Dursley, Gloucestershire and had been recommended and sponsored by the Cam parish authorities who were anxious to relieve the parish purse who were 'overburdened with poor'. The party sailed from Bristol in the regular transport ship "Kennersley Castle" on the 10th January 1820 and arrived in Table Bay on the 29th March and Algoa Bay on the 29th April 1820. A fellow gentleman traveller thought Bradshaw was an 'obliging farmer' but dismissed the party from the parish as 'a horrid dirty set and the pest of the ship'. The party was located in Albany on the Torrens River and the location was named New Gloucester."

Dorothea Rowse wrote in October 2017:"

    1. His first wife Hannah died in Cam shortly after the birth of their son George.
    2. His marriage to Sarah Smith took place in a double ceremony with his brother Joseph on 22 December 1819.
    3. The embarkation lists (Theal) gives Samuel, Hannah, George and Rhoda.
    4. The disembarkation list (Nash) gives just Samuel and Hannah.
    5. Samuel was his stepson, the illegitimate son of Sarah Smith
    6. Rhoda was his stepdaughter also the child of Sarah Smith prior to her marriage to Henry King. She probably died at sea.
    7. George did not disembark and probably died at sea. "

    8. A daughter Caroline was born at Port Frances in 1825 (mother Sarah Smith).
    9. Henry exchanged his original allocation for that of Samuel Bennett but soon sold the land to James Powell. He had left the location by 1824 and settled on the Kowie River at Port Frances.
    10. A daughter Dorcas was born in Grahamstown in 1835, the daughter of Mary Keightley.
    11. There is no death notice for him. In 1854 Jeremiah Goldswain made a sworn declaration that he had known Henry and he had been dead for many years. This would have been after 1835.
