    Notes:

Susannah and her brother Thomas were stepchildren of taxidermist Joseph Donovan, who came out on La Belle Alliance with Willson's party.

Extract from "They came from a far land" by May Bell - Page 18:
Susan was a demure little nine-year-old, with pale gold hair and the mild expression so much admired at that time. But placid as she appeared, Susan was a frightened child: afraid of her stepfather, afraid of the sea - which had drowned her sailor uncle - enduring agonies of concealed terror in the storms they passed through. For her little brother Thomas she had an absorbed devotion, perhaps because she felt the two of them to be alone in the world.
Her father had been a musician. He died young, leaving his wife two children, a pile of manuscript music, and not much else. Fortunately for Mrs Garbett, who seems to have been a nonentity, but a blonde and pretty one - she met and married Joseph Donovan and produced two sons.....He [Joseph Donovan] could not bear the idea of his wife having belonged to another man. He burnt all Garbett's manuscript music, for which Susan never forgave him, and he may sometimes have wished that Garbett's children could have been as easily disposed of. Susan certainly thought so."
