November 5, 1969/November 10,1989.Tombstones in remembrance of several original 1820 Settlers are among old stones to be seen in the little cemetery of Whittlesea, 21 miles from Queenstown, where there is sad evidence of vandalism. Settlers buried there are:
    John FILMER, born in London on February 5, 1809. He landed at Algoa Bay with his parents on April 10, 1820 and died in KingWilliam's Town on August 17, 1885.

    Ann EDWARDS, who died on July 21, 1881, aged 85, who came to this country in the year 1820.

    Extract from the Beal Preston book.'Other happy occasions were two weddings in the Miles family.Samuel Miles had fallen in love with Mary Ann, daughter of Philip and Charity Hobbs who had also come out in the Weymouth in Jame's party. According to the old St John's Church register, Samuel and Mary Ann were married on the 11th February, 1847. Elizabeth Miles signed as a witness. Their first Child,Ellen Eliza was born on the 19th March 1848. This couple were to be together for over 73 years and both died in the Cathcart District, aged 95 years.They were the grandparents of Niel Austin Miles. It is believed that Mary Ann and her sister Charity were under the care of the Rev.William Shaw and his wife for a while possibly when their Mother died.'
