According to the old St John's Church register, Samuel and Mary Ann were married on the 11th February, 1847. Elizabeth Miles signed as a witness. Their first Child,Ellen Eliza was born on the 19th March 1848. This couple were to be together for over 73 years and both died in the Cathcart District, aged 95 years.They were the grandparents of Niel Austin Miles. It is believed that Mary Ann and her sister Charity were under the care of the Rev.William Shaw and his wife for a while possibly when their Mother died.'
