    Dorothea Rowse write in October 2017:
    "1. Thomas was a cousin to the King brothers since his mother Hannah and their mother Ann Worlock were sisters, the daughters of John and Hannah Worlock of North Nibley, a village about three miles from Dursley.
    2. He was described as a Royal Naval pensioner and farmer when he emigrated. He was probably the Thomas Brent who served on HMS Sirius at the Battle of Trafalgar - he was listed in the Ships pay book on 4.8.1804. In December 1820 Thomas had to obtain a Magistrate’s identification before his RN pension could be paid from Simonstown.
    3. Thomas moved to Grahamstown to live for a while in 1822 but he spent most of his life on the New Gloucester location. His house and furniture were burnt and cattle all taken during the last Kafir war in January 1846; he died in May of that year. His property at New Gloucester was inherited by his son Thomas who farmed it for a while but it was being offered for sale in 1853.
