    Other Events and Attributes:

    • 1820 Lineage: Yes
    • Occupation: a Farmer
    • Birth: 17 Jul 1847, Cuylerville, Bathurst district, Eastern Cape, South Africa

    Notes:

He farmed at Cuylerville in the Bathurst district as his mother died in his home there. (As per her death notice) He must have moved because he later farmed in the Cathcart district and even later after his second marriage near Tweespruit Orange Free State. He was a good farmer and served as chairman on several farming bodies represented in Bls second wife was a lot younger than him and lived for another 17 years after his death. As far as is known, she did not marry again. He died at the age of 73 years.

Walter married Annie Franzeska Bertram in 1907. Annie (daughter of Robert Louis Bertram and Angelina Maria Lee) was born on 11 Jun 1881; died on 6 Dec 1964 in Tweespruit, Free State, South Africa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • 1820 Lineage: Yes
    • Name: Annie Franziska Bertram

    Notes:

No details are known about her family - not 1820 settlers. She was 34 years younger than her husband and her children were still small when their father died, the youngest being only 2 years old, so she must have brought them up by herself. She never married again. Her Grandson, Allan, tells me that she had a daughter Bernice but I do not have any further information. (This was most probably Ann's last child, Bernice Rose, born 2 years before her death and who was brought up by her stepmom Annie.) Allan also writes to say that he is sure that she died and was buried in Tweespruit. (This is most probably so as there is no record of her in the Port Alfred Cemeteries.) VW.
