It was said that he(Grubb) had in England eloped with the daughter of his employer, the owner of a school. By this marriage he had one daughter,
Ruth, who later married Edward Orsmond. [Lynn's note: Not so as he married in 1823]
The Grubbs (Charles & Caroline) settled in Grahamstown where Charles was a prosperous wheelwright and wagonmaker, and owned several houses, living in one in Market Square. They had one daughter, Susannah Hobson Grubb who married Eb Parker. He appears to have been a kindly stepfather to his wife's children.
In 1857 Mr & Mrs Grubb re-visited England and there he died 24 November 1858 aged 60 and was buried at Streatly, Berkshire, his native village. Caroline returned to Grahamstown where she died while staying at Queenstown with her daughter Mrs Parker - 22 Nov 1871, aged 68 years.
