Notes: Ellen was bitten by a spider and after contracting blood poisoning she died, leaving the family sorely bereaved. No official notice of her death is to be found the in the Archives, although her burial is recorded in the Grahamstown Baptist register. Her grave is in the Baptist section of the old cemetery above the railway station. It is recorded as No. 64 but no tombstone was ever erected and it seems members of a DICKS family have been buried at the same site.
