OBITUARY - Mr Henry STIRK The death of Mr Henry STIRK, of 'Hercules' farm, Peddie, removes one of the oldest inhabitants of the district. Mr STIRK has spent nearly the whole of his long life in the Peddie District, and the greater portion upon the farm mentioned, so names because of the wreck of a man-o'-war of that name upon the coast boundary of the farm.
Mr Henry STIRK was the eldest son of the late Mr Joseph STIRK, a Settler of 1820. He was a man of genial disposition and much esteemed by all who knew him. As a lad he shared the hardships of those troublesome times, when the surrounding native tribes were frequently in rebellion. Upon one occasion he fell into the hands of hostile natives, but the leaders knowing of him to be a son of Mr Joseph STIRK, released him without doing any harm. Mr Henry STIRK is the eldest brother of our fellow townsman Mr C J STIRK. A widow, three sons and four daughters survive and to them we offer our condolence.
