Notes |
Married:
- Sally Poole, Researcher at Cory Library, Grahamstown writes :
"As James William Jennings was also a minor at the time, consent for him to marry was given by "John Jennings the Guardian." This puzzled me for some time, but I think that I have found the answer! We have a book in the Cory Library entitled "Aided immigration from Britian to South Africa, 1857 - 1867" compiled by Esme Bull, and I have discovered from this work that a James Jennings, described as a Farm Labourer, arrived in this country in January, 1861, accompanied by his younger brother George, and that both boys were assigned to their uncle, John Jennings, milkman, Grahamstown. I enclose photocopy of pp. 324 - 325"
The marriage took place at the Farm House, Klipdrift, Grahamstown. The register was signed in the presence of John Jennings and Mary Ann Jennings. The Minister was J P Richards.
