Notes |
- Joined the R.A.F. in 1942 trained in Southern Rhodesia and Port Elizabeth then returned to U.K. as an Air Bomber where I flew in Wellingtons and Lancasters until September 1945 Posted to Iraq on ground duties, demobilized in Cairo 1947, scrounged a lift with the S.A.A.F. to Pretoria, caught a train to P.E. Married Mavis Comley.
When we joined up in U.K. we were very quickly nick-named by our barrack room mates. Irish were "Paddy" Scots were "Jock", Newcastle chaps were "Geordie", Liverpool lads were "Scouse". These nicknames followed you around wherever you went and so I was introduced to the Comley family as Jock and so it has stuck all my life since and only the Cairney family ever call me Frank. Anyway the nickname matches the accent!!"
