- [S21] Marshall, Sharon, Marshall, Sharon, (emails), 27 Apr 2003.
Ken met Ann Reid, 10 years his junior, at the age of 29 at an inter-bank hockey match in Queenstown (she worked for Standard and he worked for Barclays, now called First National). They were married on 21 Mar 1965 in Queenstwon. Ken's father, affectionately known as Sam, was admitted to hospital after a heart attack in Mar 1965. Ken maintains he hung on till the wedding and passed away that very night. Ken had been to visit him just before the wedding.
Sharon was born in Oct 1965. Ken and Ann had 4 kids in 7 days short of 4 years, and lived at 15A Berry Street and 36 Komani Street. In 1972, during Sharon's first year at Southborne Primary School, they agreed to separate after irreconcilable differences. Ken was transferred to the bank in Umtata and Ann remained in Queenstown where she lived with the 4 kids in a flat in Haig Avenue. In 1972/1973, they were reconciled and lived in Umtata for a short period before relocating to Witbank in Transvaal. They were, however, officially divorced in around 1977 (Sharon was in Std 4 at Robert Carruthers) and Ken moved back to Umtata. The three boys were sent to boarding school in Queenstown and Sharon spent the year with her mom in a flat in Witbank, before following to Queenstwon a year later when Ann moved to Pietermaritzburg. Ann died in a car accident in 1983, Sharon's matric year.
In about 1984, Ken was transferred to Butterworth, and in 1987 to Mafikeng. He retired early in about 1990 and bought a house in Gonubie. Soon afterwards, he met Hope Heuer (nee Brady), widow of Terence Heuer, and they were married in ?? in Southernwood, East London.
