  To the Editor "Penny Mail" Sir - It may interest your readers to know that there is now living within seven miles of Bulawayo a Mr. Smith, one of the original British Settlers of 1820. He distinctly remembers as a child of 5 years of age the landing of the Settlers at Algoa Bay. Although he has long since passed the allotted span, he is still in the best of health and may be seen any day digging in his garden, a patch of ground half an acre in extent. He does this for recreation, and to use his own words "keeps me wonderfully fit". He cultivates the whole of this land, and solely by himself. I have personally seen him working in his garden and such is his physical condition that he thinks nothing of putting in 5-6 hours hard work every day. The old gentleman has not had a days illness for many years. He is the grandfather of Mr. C.L. Edwards, one of the principal farmers in the Bulawayo district. B.S.
