Notes |
- According to a letter from Edison Clack (1993) notes that Walter fought in Boer War in "Nesbitt's Horse - Uncle Max had his medals" Duncan Ferguson in a letter dated 12th June, 1994, refers to a book called "Sidbury 1820 - 1920" and included extracts and some copied pages. "During the Anglo-Boer War a Fort Beaufort Unit known as Nesbitt's Horse was stationed for a time in Grahamstown and in May 1900 there was a (cricket) match at Sidbury against this unit." Ambrose Daniel's diaries are cited as the source for this information, and that "Some of theSidbury XI's are listed in the diaries and include the names .... Clack." Slater has an Appendix on the Sidbury Mounted Rangers, and Ferguson seems to be quoting from this: "Sidbury Mounted Rangers. The 9th Frontier War, Gaika/ Gcalek a War. Trooper Walter Clack 1877 - 1878 Medal with clasp." If this is Walter Frank, he would have been 16 at the time. This William could be older brother William Robert.
