Notes |
- He was the son of Joseph Oldham and his wife Mary Wood of Melton, near Ipswich, Suffolk, and was one of a small party that proposed to emigrate under the leadership of his brother Joseph Oldham but was subsequently absorbed by Bailie's party. He joined J.E. Ford's subdivision, which later came under the leadership of T.Flanegan. He was in service with Charles Crause in 1821, but deserted him to accompany his brother Joseph and his family to Cape Town. Edwin Oldham opened a retail store in Cape Town in 1822, selling drapery and tableware. In 1829 he married Eliza Marianna Rogers. He died in the general infirmary on Robben Island, and was survived by his only child Mary Elizabeth (van der Schalk).
