- Lower Albany Chronicle has the following on this James family:
4 June 1821 : John James of George Vale, asked permission for his wife Mary, to join him from England. She had been unable to embark with hi through illnes, but was now recovered. This way granted.
26 March 1824 : At a sale in front of the Harbour Master's residence at Port Kowie, twenty five building lots were sold, at about £22-10-0 each. (John James was one of the buyers)These were the first property owners in the new township.
12 October 1832 : John James of George Smith's location offered his house at Port Francis for sale. It was stone built with four rooms, each with a fireplace. His wife, Mary, had become famous throughout the colony for her cheeses.
13 January 1835 : Thomas Berrington's Inn at Port Francis had been burned, also the houses of John James, Robert Miles, William Denton, John Holt and Edwin Hewson.
