  IGI has a birth record giving 1825, marriage about 1858, London, England to a Mary A, and his parents as Emanuel Monkton and Harriet Smith. Don't think this is correct, as Emanuel and Harriet married in 1831. 1881 census has his sister-in-law, a 69 year old widow Susanna Edwards living with him and his family.
