Notes |
- The children and spouse listed on his death notice are his son Simon's children.
From the marriage certificate, Daniell Francina Joubert could not read or write, as she signed with the X mark. The dates tell us she was born approx 1842. Simon was 30 so born approx 1831, and he signed his name.
From Annie Catherine Caroline's grave stone, we know she was born 19.12.1967. She had a daughter also called Daniell Francina.
The Simon Leary dn has her as a 3 year old in 1870, so I would take that one as being 'more' correct. It was filled in on behalf of the widow, and filed 20 Dec 1870.
The other DN for the William Thomas I think is wrong or not for Simon! Maybe for his father, but then the kids are wrong! It was completed again on behalf of Daniell/Dandelina but in 1912, 50 years after the declared death in 1862, ie before Annie Catherine Caroline was born! William Thomas would have been born c1806, so quite possibly Simon's father. Dandelion would have been 70, probably with memory loss, and was confused when they asked about William Thomas' children, and told them of her own. She couldn't read or write, so still marked her X assuming that it was all correct. I think this dn is for Simon's father, and he should have been in the kids list, not the grandchildren.
