George Biddington senior England family
George Biddington, is a Seaman and was from Portsmouth, England, site of the Royal Navy School. George had attestations papers to serve in the Royal Navy in 1851 at age 19 and paid for a discharge in, 1858. In that same year of 1858, he is in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (as a Seaman) and on March 5, 1858, he marries Elyzabeth Hunt from Halifax. Not sure if he was posted in Halifax before 1858.
We can assume, that when George arrives in Halifax, that it is with the Royal Navy because he was still in the Navy in 1858, according to the Royal Navy.
George was born on the 4th. of December 1831 to:
Joseph senior Biddington Born in 1793 and burried on 13 June 1841 at age 47 and he deid on 5 January 1841 at the Royal Navy Hospital Haslar Gosport. and Rebecca senior (Scott) Biddington, who were married on December 2, 1816 in Alverstoke,Hampshire England, United Kingdom. Rebecca died on the 22 of January 1880 in Brockhurst at age 83. In the Telegraph paper it indicates that she was in the Alms Houses, which are for poor seniors and usually run by the Church. On 19 April 1810, Joseph at age 17 joins the Royal Navy in Coventry and enlisted by Lieut. Mascall. He is from Lovenham isnthe county of Leicester he is 5feet 2inches, Brown hair, grey eyes and his trade is a Weaver. When his Son gets married he is listed as a Sargent in the Royal Navy.

Joseph, John, Martha Ann, Rebecca (Sinclair?) , Elizabeth Margaret, Susanna Matilda (Moore), Stephen and Robert Richard and George that came to Canada.

1- Joseph Biddington Born Portsmouth on 22 November 1817 Died 21 August 1880
Hampshire telegraph news on, 4 September 1880 and former Royal Navy and lived at 62 Charlotte Street. He is burried at the Falmouth cemetery, and so is his wife and one son.
Maria Rosina born Vincent. birthplace Piddletronthide Dorsetshire, his wife, died at age 66 and was a district paymaster’s clerk, died on June, 3, 1887 and it is in the Royal Cornwall Gazette of June 8, 1877. The couple is married in a Church on May 9, 1840 and Joseph junior is a Corporal in the Royal Navy and his father Joseph senior, is a Sargent in the Royal Navy. Joseph enlisted twice in the Royal Navy once on the 21 August 1829 at age 12 and is 5 feet tall and is enlisted at the Head Quarter as a Labourer. He will enlist a second time and it says he was a drummer for the past 6 years. This second enlistment is on 29 August 1835 at age 18 and 6 feet tall, with Brown hair and grey eyes. He is en listing at the Head Quarters as a labourer. Maria Rosina’s father is Josiah Vincent and a gardener.
They have a daughter Rosina Rebecca Amelia Chriristening on 24 September 1843 and died in Natal South Africa on 29 January 1906 and death certificate shows parents as Joseph and Maria Rosina Biddington. Rosina married Henry Bailey a widower, in Durban, Natal, South Africa in on the 25 December 1877.
Their 19 years and 4 months old son Josiah Born in 1854, in Dorton Hampshire, died on July 14, 1873 and posted in the Cornish Telegraph of July 16, 1873. A son, William John born in Dorton on December 12, 1851 and joined the Royal Navy on 26 November 1862, he is the son of Joseph and has 5 siblings. Susanna Maria born in Gosport 1851. Possibly the same getting married to Richard Collings on August 4, 1877 in Birmingham. Daughter Rosina Rbecca Amelia Christening on 24 Steptembber 1843 at Portsea.
The youngest son of Joseph, James Vincent Born in Falmouth, is born in 1861 on the census of the same year and is getting married on the 4th of August 1884 in Bristol to Annie (Anna) Jane Paacoe born about 1859, eldest daughter of the late Charles Henry Pascoe and are both from Falmouth. In the Lake’s Falmouth Packet and Cornwall Adviers of August 6, 1909. James Vincent dies , at age 78 on 17 December 1938 and burried at Redlandwee Canford Cemerary. There is a probate in 1939. On the Western Daily and Bristol Mirror. James Vincent was a Freemason and very involved in the community. He was owner of a Hosiery and outfitter store for about 50 years. The couple has recently celebrated their 50 th anniversary. Stephen Joseph son of Joseph is born in 1859. On December 14, 1870, at age of 9, he is attending the Kimberley School in Falmouth and receives a prize for being first in arithmetics, in the second class. Captain Habley at the end of the ceremony said that he could not rememnber an instance where a German sailor could not write his name legibly but the same could not be said for the English mercantile marine. It was also noted that in the district 25% of the children did not attend school. He is getting married in South Africa. At Saint James Church, Isipingo, South Africa, on May 19, 1881, Stephen Joseph Biddington, works for N.G. Railways as a booking and telegraph clerk (for Americal Telegraph) and is 24 years old, Pietermaritzburg and marries Florence Bailey. On the Royal Cornwall Gazette on October, 21, 1881. Stephen Joseph died in New Zealand on 4th August 1926 at age 67 and 11 months and is burried at the Waikumete Cemetery in the non-conformiste Div. D Row 7 Plot 32, in Glen Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. In his will, he leaves his 2 silver medals to his son Glen Gordon. One for the Boar War and one for the Battle of Telena Hill. Telena Hill is in South Africa and the reason, he is married in South Africa. In 1899 Stephen Joseph is the Station Master on the Natal Government Railways (NGR).
Stephen Joseph and Florence Louise Biddington or first wife also named Florence, has the following children either or in South Africa and New Zealand. Stephen Joseph died in 1926 and in 1927 Florence Louis is Stephen Joseph’s second wife and has 2nd wedding to William John Tucker, youngest son of William Tucker of Feilding. Mentions in the paper that Florence lives on Windmill Road and same adress for Steven Joseph, so we know it is the same person. She is born in around 1857 and died on 22July 1935 at age 76. Florence the 1st. Wife is burried in Getuld Springs, South Africa. Headstone: Flora Biddington 1857-1933.

Glady Adelaide -Born July 6, 1882 possibly. She is married to David Walter Gillman of the National Bank of South Africa at Springs, near Jahannisberg. David is the executor of Stephen Joseph’s will made on April 6, 1925, one year before he died in New Zealand. David Walter Gillman was born in London on 20 December 1883, was married to Glady on 16 May 1910 in Newcastle, Natal and died on February 8, 1965. Was a retired Bank Manager and was living at 11 Merritt Avenue St. Winifred, Duban, South Africa.

Pearl Rosina major Born 1 February 1888 in Natal. Her first marriage is to Charles Sydney Graham, a postal clerk, in Natal on 1 Setptember 1910. Her second marriage mentioned she is divorced from Graham and she is getting married to Augustus Frederick Harber, who is a veterinary surgeon, on 23 June 1921 in Pietermaritzburg. Pearl died on 12 December 1966 at Cransley House, Cottesloe, Johannesburg. She was at the Bramfontein Crematorium in Johannesburg.
Bruce Most likely Bruce Alexander born 1894 in Natal and married May Guendoline Dowell on 26 April 1920 in Hohannesburg. They get a divorce and May Guendoline remarries. Bruce Alexander died on April 24, 1931 in Bloemfontein Orange Free State.
From the above children of Stephen Joseph, there is Harold Vincent, born October 18, 1893 on his air force reccord and receives a long service medal. He was born in Devenport, Devon and died in Dundee Union Nationale. He died on September 29, 1959 and burried on October 1st. Note on death certificate, says ashes scattered. He was married to Winifred and they have a son Colin Foster Biddington on 16 November 1922. Present was a Margaret Vincent and Horold’s Grand-Mother was a Vincent but this is not his Grand-Mother. He was a Lieutenant in the Air Force 1918-1919 with the Royal Flying Corps. On 13 January 1918, he is a prisoner in the hands of the Germans. He was repriated and had belonged to the East Surrey Regiment. Possibly the same in a photo of prisoners in German camp in the Melburne Punch Newspaper November 1, 1917. He became a bank officer for the Standard Bank and lived on 15 Saunders Street in Yeoville, Johanesbergh. He was only married once to Winnifred Emma Bartlett and was married in 1919 in Havant, Hamshire, england. There is the name Colin Foster Bridlington an adult child on the death certificate. It is their son Colin Foster born on 16 November 1922.
Their son Colin Foster is married in Johannisberg on November 1950 to Lilian Eilien Burton born in England.
From the above children of Stephen Joseph, there is Glen Gordon. Like his brother he is in the Air Force and when he died, his occupation like his brother, was working for a bank as an accountant. He was born on in November 1890 and died on 2nd. Of February 1956. His birth was in Natal and is burried in the Southbroom, General cemetary, Port Sheptone, Natal. He was married in East London Howelkis register South Africa, on 28 of July 1921 to Nuriel Illica Tarr, from East London, South Africa.
On June 4, 1904 we see Florence the mother age born 1857, with son Mstr. Glen age 13 and Mstr. Harold age 9, going from England to South Africe.
From the above children of Stephen Joseph, there is Stephen Louis Born 1884 and died on 21 January 1950 and only burried on 31 May 1950 in Clermont, Queensland, Australia. He is in the 1914 Electoral roll in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. The Natal, Canadian and American papers carried the story of Stephen Louis Biddington. On the Montreal, Quebec, Canada paper is says that a lad of 16, related to George Biddington on Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada (son of his nephew). It says probably the youngest volunteer now serving his country at the front is, Stephen Louis Biddington. Worked at the Bank (probably with his brother in law) and left to join the F squadron of Colonial Scouts, even if he is shy of the allowed age, to join. On 21 October he joins the 4th Infantry Battalion, in Sydney Australia. He is soldier # 602 same as his tom stone but they say Stephen Lewis instead of Louis but it is the same one. He will start with the HMAT SS “Te Anau” as an acting Corporal and it states that he is living at 200 Campbell Street in Rockampton, Queensland, Australia in 1915. This is the same place where he will later become a constable. After he becomes a bookeeper for the Central Queensland Meat Export Company. In 1926 on the will of his father it says that Stephen Louis is living on Bridge Street, Mount Morgan, Queensland, Australia. In 1915 he is married to Florence Emily. "
