Notes |
- Notes for Elizabeth Brockett:
Elizabeth married James Minto in 1792. In 1797 her husband purchased a farm, Mayfield, near Sadlerhead and devoted his attention to agriculture. In March 1807 Elizabeth visited Glasgow for medical advice. She had not enjoyed good health for the five years preceding her death. Her husband James died in 1815. They had four children: James, Robert, Margaret, and William..
James II married prior to 1819 and had 7 children:
James III emigrated with his family to America and resided in Cincinnati, Ohio. James III died October 15, 1847 and his wife died January 1849. Elizabeth married Robert Wilson in 1860. She was widowed with four children. Mary married Alexander Hewett. Margaret married Thomas Charles and removed to Australia where her husband died. She then returned to Scotland. Ester married James Southerland, a druggist in Glasgow, in November 1855. In 1860 they had two children. In 1869 Mr. Southerland was in Cincinatti. Martha married William Roe.
Robert married prior to 1819 and died in St. John's Newfoundland in 1851.
Margaret married William Indhop (?) about 1830 and removed to Canada with the family of James Indhop (?) who married Christina, daughter of James Brockett. Prior to her marriage, Margaret resided for some years with her uncle Andrew Brockett in Glasgow. In 1860 this family was supposed to be residing at or near Lake Sinico, Upper Canada.
William died in 1820 leaving one child.
1n 1860 Franklin L. Brockett, son of Robert II, reopened a correspondence with the family of Elizabeth in Glasgow --- after a silence between the two branches of the family for over thirty years. The above is from the papers of Robertt II and Franklin L. Brockett.
In the late 1990's Betty Finks Barns, daughter of Virginia Brockett Finks, went to Scotland. She obtained a letter that had been written to Lesmahagow by a member of the Minto family asking for information about William I. She contacted them at that time.
Date of birth not given. Baptised March 9, 1750. Married James Ninto in 1792. In 1797 her husband purchased a fam, Mayfield, near Sadlerhead and devoted his attention to agriculture. In March 1807 Elizabth visited Glasgow for medical advice. She had not enjoyed good health for five years preceding her death. She died at Mayfield November 11, 1811, and was buried at Lesmahagow. Her husband, James died in 1815.
