  	He was killed on active service in Italy - died of wounds, corporal (sapper) 13 Field Squadron, SA Engineer Corps. Clumber Methodist Church was built on a hill named by the 1820 British Settlers "Mount Mercy" the current church is the third to have been built on this site. Inside the church : Roll of Honour. To the glory of God and in grateful memory of the following men of this district Who gave their lives in The Second World War 1939 - 1945.
