- Original name Ameliora Anne Farmer; apparently in common usage became Meliora, born 9th May, 1870, Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. Arrived South Africa from Australia between July and November 1884, as did her 3 siblings.
Her siblings should also be listed, Irene Mary Martha Farmer born June 1866, Emerald Hill, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Edith Elizabeth Farmer, born 12th May,1871, Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. Sir George Richard Hugh Farmer (Baronet re. British title), probably known as Hugh, born 5th June, 1873, possibly at Footscray, birth registered Maribynong, (Melbourne) Victoria, Australia; died South Africa 1891.
I have found your site most in useful in giving me clues to track this family after they left Australia for South Africa. The children were all orphans by this time and went to live with a sister of their father ; Sophia, who had married Kallenberg. They all lived the rest of their lives in South Africa. I am not a relative but this family lived in the house we own in Bacchus Marsh and I am writing the history of the house , built 1861/2. Ameliora & Edith would have been born at home here. Their father, born in Britain 1829, went to Tasmania about 1849. Their mother was born in Tasmania in 1838. Her family came from Britain in 1830. By 1866 this couple moved to the colony of Victoria, Australia. She died 1874 and he in1883.
