- According to the book "Never a Young Man - extracts from the letters and journals of The Rev. William Shaw", compiled by Celia Sadler, published by Haum, 1967 :-
William Shaw's first wife Ann died on June 6th 1854. Her grave is in the old Methodist cemetery in Grahamstown. A fairly lengthy obituary notice appeared in the Graham's Town Journal of June 10th, 1854, and is reproduced in the book on page 132.
"This marriage took place on March 12th 1857 in Liverpool Road Chapel, Islington, the officiating minister being the Rev. Dr. Bunting, after whom Buntingville was named when that Mission Station was founded on November 22nd, 1830. William Shaw's second wife was a widow, Mrs. Ogle, of Bolton, whose maiden name had, strangely enough, been Shaw."
"Memoir of the Rev. William Shaw"..
THE state of Mr. Shaw's health was for some time very unsatisfactory.
His second marriage, in all probability, saved and prolonged his life many years. This happy event took place March 12th, 1857, in Liverpool Road Chapel, Islington, and was the last occasion on which the Rev. Dr. Bunting officiated, as soon after, on June 16th, 1858, that eminent Minister was called to his reward. The lady was Mrs. Ogle, widow of the late Mr. John Bourne Ogle, of Bolton, and daughter of the late Joseph Shaw, Esq., Collector of Excise, and granddaughter of the Eev. Thomas Shaw, who, on his first entering the ministry, resided with Mr. Wesley, at the City Road.
Much of the health and comfort which Mr. Shaw enjoyed to the end of his valuable life may be ascribed to the assiduous love and indefatigable care of Mrs. Shaw
