Notes |
- Aunt Hetty as she was known by us all, was born in Govan, Scotland and
later moved with her family to Greenock near Glasgow. Her Father worked
in the ship yards on the Clydebank. He was a very devout Christian and
was prominent in a demonstration in Greenock during which all the Sunday
newspapers were seized from their vendors, taken to a square and burned.
Little did he dream that his grandson would one day work on such a
publication.... The Sunday Tribune, Durban. His great grandson would do
similarly, and his great grand-daughter would work on The Sunday Express
in London. My Mother also emigrated to Johannesburg South Africa and
later became Manageress of Cuthbert's Shoe Store in Pretoria.... the
first woman to hold such a position in that fairly large company. Hetty
and Willie had five children.
