Notes |
- Sgt Major John Brislin landed in Jersey on his way out to South Africa - we assume he was with his unit. He also appears to have brought either one three-year-old or three one-year-old with him. We do know that at least two of is sons, John Waldon Brislin and George Samuel Charles Brislin lived in Grahamstown and married the Poulton sisters. Both are listed as masons in 1853. John Waldon lived in Artificer Square and George lived in Beaufort Street. John Waldon is cridited with being the architect who designed the facade of Grahamstown's Town Hall. I believe he also designed the church at Salem but I am not certain of this. The council in Grahamstown apparently could not afford to have the whole building built to his prize winning design.
