"As one can see from the pass application of Richard Hudson, he writes from Graaff Reneit, where his brother Hougham was commissioned in 1821-1822. Also Philip Robinson the son of Robert John Robinson and Martha Rosina Strutt was baptised at the NG Kerk 31 March 1822, Graaff Reneit. This puts his parents in Graaff Reneit 1822 also.
Philip moved to Cradock where he married Martha Elizabeth Cornelia Beytell 7 February 1841 at the NG Kerk Cradock.Their thirteen children from Andrew (1842) to Philipa (1868) were all born in Cradock. Mary Whitehead nee Hudson? is buried in the grounds of the NG Kerk, Cradock, and by accounts from family sources was a devout christian.
Please note on the Hudson download, line 22, that Richard could not possibly be the biological son of Mary, but her brother. The same applies to to James, line 23, unless she gave birth to him at the age of 16, which of course is possible but unlikely. In addition, their is no evidence yet of James Hudson as a child of Hougham Hudson and Mary Huggett.
It is probable that Henry and Mary were not married, but were relations posing as a family. (Hayhurst's reputation was somewhat of a scallywag). The Henry Hudson on his list points to the Henry who married Sarah Frances mother of Martha Rosina Strutt." - Rob Prestwich.
