Fought in Anglo-Boer War and captured. POW no. 7880. Banned to Ceylon - aged 45. Captured as part of Wepener Commando at Fouriesburg on 30 July 1900. In 1908 he was listed as a farmer with three children, one deceased.
On claim after war stated that Joseph Potgieter was the owner of the farm Holywell.
