- He died at his son-in-law, Robert Samuel Gordon Marshall's, house in Stutterheim. He had been farming at Avondale, Readsdale, Stockenstrom, and left this, together with 4 other pieces of land to his 4 children. Henry Magnus, who worked for Barclays Bank in Addo, was made sole executor of his estate. He also left a life assurance policy to Julius Magnus Michel. Immovable property at Kat River settlement, Readsdale/Zuurhoek, was sold for 3500 pounds. Highlands, Stockenstrom was also liquidated.
The nly son who wanted to farm, Thomas Kenneth, bought part of Avondale for 1750 pounds, where he remained until his death. Estate was signed by Henry Magnus on 8 Dec 1947.
There is also an agreement between Thomas Henry Collett and Arthur Roderick and Arthur Rhodes Tremeer of 10 pounds rent per morgan, entitling him to access the river bit at Avondale and various other bits at Highlands. It seems the property was not owned by him, and I remember Thomas Kenneth (Uncle Ken) slowly selling off more and more.
His will, written on 10 Aug 1936 at Avondale, was signed by DF Kemp and EG Wilson.
