    "David was quite famous for being attacked by a crocodile while fishing, playing dead when being rolled in the water to drown him. He was dragged into the croc's lair under the river bank that was stocked with other carcasses that were rotting until ready to eat. He escaped with a broken hip and a farm hand pushed him in a wheelbarrow to a farmhouse where they called for help. He was in traction in the Umtali Hospital for a long time with regular updates printed by The Umtali Post" - {Betty Murray}

He was killed in an accident while riding his bicycle near Pretoria.
