    Notes:

    Stephen boarded the "Zoroaster" on 24 December 1819 bound for SA with his parents. He married Millicent Palmer in 1836 and rented a pew at the Bathurst Wesleyan Chapel.

    1834 saw the first Frontier War destroy everything the family had built up in the past 14 years. In 1837 he was farming in the Bathurst district. In July 1839 his wife and two young children died.

    Together with his brother Edward Hunt Dell he bought "Barville Park" on 8 December 1842 from George Wood. The farm consisted of 2361 morgen, cost ¹1200 and was previously owned by Mary H Campbell. It is still owned by his descendants." Barville Park" was a fortress type home and served as a place of refuge during three Frontier wars. It housed 14 families during the War of the Axe in 1846. Samuel was born a week before this war started. They had also been joint owners of "Kasouga Farm" since the 19th April 1849 (1930 morgen costing ¹1000).

    On the 4th February 1863 Stephen Dell became sole owner of "Barville Park" and Edward Hunt Dell received entire ownership of "Kasouga Farm".

    A kind father, brave soldier and optimistic, hard-working farmer who left "Barville Park" in trouble financially. The estate was insolvent but his youngest brother, Samuel William Dell redeemed it for ¹3555 and took transfer in October 1882.

    His grave records his age as 68 years, 5 months and 6 days.
