  August 1867 - October 1872 he was Sub-Inspector of the Frontier Armed & Mounted Police. In 1868 he took part in an expedition led by Sir Walter Currie, to settle a border dispute between the Orange Free State and Basutoland, and this was followed by a series of operations between the White Kei and Indwe ribers, in order to quell the disturbances which ahd been inspired by Nonesi, a widow of the late Paramount Chief of the Tembu people Assistant Commissioner for Basutoland from March 1884. Served as Sub-Inspector of the Frontier Armed & Mounted Police from Aug 1867 to Oct 1872. In 1868 he took part in an expedition, led by Sir Walter Currie, to settle a border dispute between the Orange Free State and Basutoland, and this was followed by a series of operations between the White Kei and Indwe rivers, in order to quell the disturbances which had been inspired by Nonesi, a widow of the late paramount chief of the Tembu people.
