• Notes

issue 4 sons; 6 daughters From Captain Robert Southey's History of the Southey Family: "Upon Thomas' death his eldest son Robert received nothing under the Will until his mother died when he became her heir. Robert lived to a great age dying in 1674 when he must have been about a hundred. The Sowtheys of Fitzhead and the poet are among Robert's descendants and form the subject of our next chapter." From Steve Addison's manuscript: "Robert was a Yeoman. His will was proved 22 Mar 1675, and stated he was"...infirm of body though perfect in mind". His will mentions 3 grandsons - Thomas, Robert and John.
