John Robert Bowker got a first class Matric with distinction in Mathematics from St. Andre's College. He was articled to a firm of Chartered Accountants and had passed his 4th year when he joined up with the First City Regiment. He later transferred to 5th Field Artillery and was sent to North Africa in August 1941. He was killed in action. see WWII SADF involvement.pdf in documents section.
