- General Notes: William arrived in South Africa in 1914. During his 46 years in the Congo Evangelistic Missionary hew was decorated as CHavalier of the order of Leopold II. He established 1000 mission stations in the Belgian Congo.
William BURTON was a brilliant man, with the City and Guilds of London Honours in Electrical Engineering. He was an excellent artist, and exhibited his paintings at the Bloemfontein Arts and Crafts Exhibition, the South African Academy in Johannesbury, and the Eastern Province Exhibition. William and Hettie travelled extensively, overseas, during thier furlough periods, for WIlliam was a missionary under a British Missionary Society. (C.E.M.).
William was decorated as Chevalier of the Order of Leopold II. He wrote, in all, twenty books, all beautifully illustrated by his own sketches, in colour and in black and white. Thwy were:-" Missionary Pioneering in Congo Forests", "God Working with Them", "How THey

Since the trouble started in the Congo, William has spent much time in South Africa and all over the world, lecturing on missionary work, with emphasis on that in Central Africa.
