• Notes

  In 1871 he was the Resident Magistrate in Leribe, Basutoland estate : MOOC 6/9/601 2129/1908 Was Magistrate at Leribe, Basutoland from 1871 to 1881 and was killed while stationed at Thlotse Heights during the Basuto War. A tablet set into the side of the little Anglican Church of St Saviour at Leribe reads : "In memory of Major Charles Harland BELL "Majorabella" late 63rd Regiment and Cape Mounted Rifles.
