I took a drive out to the cemetery and found the following two Marshall graves, very close to one another. Sam Marshall 30.10.1904 - 20. 3. 1965 Thora Michel Marshall 4.9.1905 -- 9.4.1894
Everton says he worked at Stevenson Mitchell (usually just known a Mitchells) together with Thora Michelle Marshall (nee Collett). he says that she worked at the sweet counter for years and years. her Husband Sam, was employed at a place called Farmers Utilities where they sold ploughs, irrigation equipment and other goods that farmers need.
Once again, according to Everton, Sam Marshall was not related in any way to Samuel Marshall.
Everton remembers your dad as an Old Queenian and an outstanding athlete. Everton did work at Morums after Mitchells closed down. Material was always his forte.
Hilton Church and Cemetery and the Chilton Church and Cemetery are probably quite close together as the crow flies. Hilton is a Methodist Church and Chilton is an Anglican Church. Both are like small English Parish Churches with the grave yard right up close to the church. I haven't been to Chilton for some time and have no idea if it is sometimes still used for services apart from the occasional wedding or funeral. Hilton even sported a school in the early days and I would guess that of the two, Hilton has always been the more go ahead church. ( I have an idea that the majority of the settlers were Methodist, but I may be wrong. There is also a similar church at Thomas River. I think it is also Anglican, but I doubt that it is used regualrly. I have a pic of Hilton Church from the Beal Preston book and will send it with this mail. I think these churches served a useful purpose in the days when transport was by horse and cart. Apart from anything else, they needed a place close at hand to bury the dead quickly before they started stinking. Hilton also had a tennis court and a hall and I think became the social hub of the farms in the area.
