  After school at Dale College, he started on the farm. He then worked for Premier Bakery. He then moved to as a Foreman to Stutterheim Forests before becoming Assistant Shift Engineer for Escome in Cape Town. He moved back to Premier Milling as the Sales Co-ordinator before moving to Farmer Brown Chickens as the Factory Manager in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape. He then had a bad accident hurting his leg when he slipped on a boat at the Gamtoos River near Jeffrey's Bay, Eastern Cape. After 7 years he opened a courier company servicing the Jeffrey's Bay, Gamtoos, Port Elizabeth region until he broke his shoulder and could not drive. After a time he went to help his cousin Hugh at Rocklands Poultry, Uitenhage in early 2000's where he was still employed in 2004.
