  Referring to Cyrus De Wilton SMITH (son of settler George SMITH)she writes: "My grandfather was 14 years old when he went off to earn his own living. He worked in a factory in Grahamstown. Later he bought a wagon and oxen and did transport riding to Kimberley. After some years he married Mary Ann Janet KEIGHTLEY and bought a block or FOUR farms in the Cathcart district : HIGHLANDS;GRASSLANDS;GLEN RENNOX and KILDARE..all of which were left to his four sons"( he had 17 children in total only eight survived infancy) << Does anyone know if these farms are still in existence? I think he would have purchased them after 1860 and before 1890. And if by any small chance they are still in the SMITH/PAXTON family?? The PAXTON and SMITH families were very close.
