  According to Joan Maureen Pautz (Pretoria, South Africa, 19 Dec 2006) Lyndon Douglas Gradwell was a carpenter for Wilson's sweets factory. He was a quiet person who never said much (he never had a chance with his wife). He walked to work and back and was paid weekly. Walking back on Friday nights, he would stop at a pub on the way and roll home. Joan used to spend a lot of her holidays with them at Kimberley Terrace in East London (a double-storey place). They had the huge top floor with two balconies (one off the bedrooms and one off the kitchen/dining room). Downstairs lived Leslie Gradwell and his wife Adelaide. They had two boys - Basil and NN.
