When studying the copies, note that Newman Gray moves up the list over time, as a result of the death of members who became freemen earlier.
There is some connection between the families of Gray, Shaw, a'Beckett and Steele as Wm A'Beckett's will of 1845 and 1848 describe a Wilkinson as the 'brother' of Jane Shaw and William Steele Wilkinson as a'Beckett's nephew. Elizabeth Shaw, daughter of Hannah Gray and granddaughter of Newman Gray refers in her will of 1847 to the expectation of a legacy from Mrs Jane Shaw, wife of William a'Beckett.«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»«tab»
