I am sorry to give you so much trouble but beg to state that the person by the name of SCOTT mentioned in my last had been insirted thro' mistake he having declined going with the party at that time, it ought to have been Wm. COLLIER, by trade a Laborer Aged 20 years which alteration I trust will be complyed with. (National Archives, Kew, CO48/52, 407)
The Agent clearly misheard Currier for Collier.
Bap 12.10.1800 at Tredington, Glos. the son of William and Elizabeth Collier. (Tredington is 3.3 miles from Bishops Cleeve)
By 24 December 1823 the only men listed as being on Holder’s Party location were Holder, Hiles, Powell, and Kidwell. (Theal, G.M. Records of the Cape Colony, Vol. 16)
Collier/Currier has not appeared in the usual sources – Stanton marriage transcripts; Destination Albany, NAAIRS, Cape Probate Records, St Johns Bathurst registers index; indexed marriages and baptisms.
